omnadren is a synthetic glucocorticoid drug for topical application.
It has anti-inflammatory, anti, antipruritic effect.
After the application is stored in the epidermis (mainly in the granular layer).
Metabolized directly into the epidermis, and further in the liver. Excreted by the kidneys and the bile.
Indications for use:
omnadren cream 1% is used in inflammatory and allergic diseases of the skin non-microbial etiology: eczema, dermatitis (atopic, contact); atopic dermatitis, itching dermatoses, photodermatosis, anogenital pruritus, insect bites, erythroderma, psoriasis.
Use of the drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to omnadren or other ingredients, bacterial, viral and fungal diseases of the skin, skin tuberculosis, syphilitic skin lesions.
Skin tumors, violation of the integrity of skin (ulcers, wounds), rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral. dermatitis, post-vaccination period, children’s age (up to 2 years old, itching in the anal area – up to 12 years).
Diabetes, tuberculosis (systemic disease).
With extreme caution should be used drug in the skin due to the possibility of occurrence of adverse events (telangiectasia, atrophy, perioral dermatitis), even after short-term use. For the prevention of infectious skin lesions omnadren ointment recommended to be administered in combination with antibacterial and antifungal agents.
Application of pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
The use of corticosteroids during pregnancy is possible if the expected effect of therapy for the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus (adequate and well-controlled studies safety of not performed).Women of childbearing age should be warned about the potential risk to the fetus (steroids pass through the placenta). It is necessary to carefully monitor infants whose mothers during pregnancy were obtained glucocorticosteroids (adrenal insufficiency may develop in the fetus and newborn). The drug should not be used often in large doses over an extended period of time.
Nursing women should discontinue either breast-feeding or the use of the drug (drugs), especially in high doses (steroids penetrate into breast milk and could suppress growth, the production of endogenous glucocorticoids and cause undesirable effects in the newborn). When using the drug should not be applied to the skin of the breast.
Dosing and Administration:
Outwardly. Ointment applied thinly to the affected areas of skin 2-3 times a day. The duration of treatment depends on the nature of the disease and the effectiveness of therapy, constituting usually 6-14 days; with persistent course of illness it can be extended to 20 days. The dose used for 1 week, should not exceed 30-60, the itching in the anal area before applying the drug should wash the affected area with warm soapy water, then water and dry the surface of the skin with a towel or cloth. On limited areas to enhance the effect can be used with occlusive dressings.
In applying the drug in children aged 2 years and older should be limited to the total duration of treatment and eliminating activities that lead to increased resorption of the steroid intake (warming, fixing and occlusive dressings).
In childhood, the suppression of adrenocortical function may develop more quickly. Furthermore, there may be a decrease of excretion of growth hormone. In applying the drug for a long time is required to observe the body weight, height, level of plasma cortisol.
There may be individual intolerance phenomena in the form of congestion, swelling and itching at the site of ointment. With prolonged use also may develop secondary infections of the skin lesions, atrophic changes in it, hypertrichosis. For the prevention of infectious skin lesions recommend drug administered in combination with antibacterial and antifungal agents.
With prolonged use of ointment or use of occlusive dressings, especially on large areas of destruction, may develop Cushing, as a manifestation of resorptive action of omnadren.
Acute overdose is unlikely, however, when excessive or prolonged use of the drug can be a chronic overdose accompanied by signs of hypercortisolism: Hyperglycemia, glycosuria, reversible suppression of adrenocortical function, a manifestation of Cushing’s syndrome.
Treatment. Displaying an appropriate symptomatic treatment. In the case of chronic toxic recommended phasing out the drug.
Interaction with other drugs
Prolonged use of the drug because of the possibility of resorption into the systemic circulation, omnadren may reduce the effectiveness of insulin, oral hypoglycemic, hypotensive JIC, anticoagulants, salicylates and praziquantel concentration in blood plasma. The risk of side effects of omnadren increases: androgens, estrogens, oral contraceptives, anabolic steroids (hirsutism, acne); antipsychotic LC, carbutamide, azathioprine (cataract); holinoblokatory, antihistamines. LC, tricyclic antidepressants, nitrates (glaucoma); diuretics (hypokalemia), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (increased risk of ulceration in the gastrointestinal tract), paracetamol (hepatotoxicity). In the application with cardiac glycosides may develop digitalis intoxication. Concomitant use of drugs with lead ions and silver ions leads to mutual inactivation; with amphotericin B may develop myocardial dilatation and heart failure. Barbiturates, antiepileptic and antihistamines reduce the effectiveness of omnadren.
Avoid contact with eyes ointment. Children up to 12 years of drug prescribed only under strict medical supervision: If, after 7 days of treatment no improvement or deterioration is observed, as well as in case of resumption of symptoms a few days after discontinuation, use of the drug should be discontinued and consult a doctor. Do not use the drug without consulting your doctor when itching in the genital area of women is accompanied by vaginal discharge. With long-term treatment and / or applied to large surfaces it is recommended that a diet with restriction of sodium and high in potassium; administered in a sufficient amount of protein. It is necessary to monitor blood pressure, glucose and cortisol concentration in the blood, blood clotting, diuresis, patient body weight.
The drug has no effect on ability to drive and use machines.
